Ekiti NSCDC command marks UN Peace day

..announces Peace Ambassadors

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ekiti State Command has marked 2021 United Nations Peace Day in Grand styles with the theme recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world.

The ceremony which took place at the Headquarters of the Command in Ado Ekiti had in attendance guests from Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Correctional Services, Nigeria Immigration Service and other Technocrats who had been working on peace maintenance, building and enforcement in the state.

The Resource person for the day, Mrs Toyosi Tanimowo, a public health officer from NCDC who spoke about The role of women and young people in recovery from COVID 19 pandemic submitted that the novel virus has affected the economy of the world and the telling effect of the virus on women and children are enormous in Nigeria even with the reduction of death rate from the virus compared to other countries, the economic effect is prevalent and it will require combined efforts from the government and general public to recover from the effect of the pandemic.

She called on people who are still doubting the efficacy of the vaccine to go and take it as it has been considered safe and urged those who took the first jab to go and take the second jab to complete the vaccination.

The day is always set aside to celebrate and appreciate people who are working to sustain global peace as well as societal peace so as to encourage others to work more on peaceful coexistence between and among ethnic groups, clans and creeds and other components of the society.

The State Commandant Mr. Fayemi Olatunde John expressed his displeasure about the level of insecurity that pervades the country while noting that sustainable development is only achievable when we have peace since only alternative to peace is peace, the need to have concerted effort towards peace maintenance in the country becomes expedient so that we can enjoy the fruit our labour as well as allowing government to execute their developmental plans aimed at making live better for Nigerians.

Commandant Fayemi thanked the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi for maintaining peace in Ekiti State despite pockets of security challenges in the state which might be as a result of security challenges facing the country as he opined that the challenge will soon come to an end with the support of all us by reporting propmtly to security agencies to curb the proposed attack proactively.

The Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit of the Command awarded some dignataries during the celebration for the 2021 Peace Ambassador Award. Mr. Akin Fatokun, Bishop Clement Abifade, Mr. Omotosho Odunayo, Mr.Femi Apata, Mr. Adedipe Olufemi, Mrs Yetunde Mary Ogunkuade and other people from academics and public service.
