Don’t be silent about the state of the nation, Mrs Akeredolu charges Church, Mothers

..bags ‘Special Honour’ award

The wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty-Anyanwu Akeredolu has called on all and sundry, especially the church and the women groups to voice out on the current situation in Nigeria, saying that to restore the country, people must cultivate the habit of making pronouncement against ills.

Mrs Akeredolu who spoke in Ibadan on Sunday as the Chairperson of the 12th Patronal Anniversary thanksgiving and awards of Adeyinka Adegbite Memorial Anglican Church, noted that the current state of Nigeria was a cumulated result of actions, inactions and complacency of individuals.

Commenting on the theme of the anniversary, “Divine Restoration”, the Ondo First Lady who was conferred with a Special Honour award, frankly noted that in order to clean the mess of the ugly situation in Nigeria, we must act beyond expecting divine restoration but always issue statements to condemn the unwanted situation of things and proffer solutions to the man-made mess.

She said: “As an advocate, I want to touch on the theme of the sermon which was instructive and profound, through the prism of a Breast Cancer advocate, gender advocate, girl-child advocate, and women advocate worldwide.

“The preacher harped on divine restoration, I agree with that. but let’s consider the human angle of why this country is in mess. We have to be a little bit pragmatic in finding solutions to the problems, there are indicators that the country has failed, things have gone haywire, we should not wait for miracle; Church, our mothers should talk, make pronouncement about the killings in the country, issue press releases; our actions and inactions are responsible for the mess we met ourselves in this country”.

She, however, appreciated the award bestowed on her, describing it as a recognition of her positive impacts in the Society and a nudge to forge ahead.

Earlier in his sermon, Revd Ufuoma Okotie who read from Isaiah 61:1-11, had said God is capable to restore the earth, Nigeria, and families to their original states, regardless of the current situation of things; but through repentance and prayers.

He lamented the current economic and security situations across the globe, noting that sins had brought mankind down and emphasised the need for genuine repentance in order experience divine restoration.

In the entourage of the First Lady were the wife of the deputy governor, Mrs Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, members of the Forum of Wives of Ondo State Officials and Female Political Appointees, FOWOSO.
