IWD 2021: Challenge obstacles for the purpose of nation’s devt, FOMWAN charges women

Nigerian women have been urged to critically re-examine their situation and challenge those obstacles with a view to overcoming them for national development.

This was contained in a Press release issued for the International Women’s Day celebration signed by the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), signed by the National Amirah Hajiya Halimah Jibril and the National PRO, Dr Sumaye Hamza which was made available to news men.

It encouraged women to challenge the current insecurity in the nation as it called on all and sundry to find a lasting solution to the menace.

“We all require a safe environment to engage positively in all walks of life towards ensuring a sustainable wellbeing.

It noted that women have not benefited more from development policies, projects and programmes like in political representation, access to economic tools of production and leadership.

According to the organisation, the contributions of women to national development are usually underrated and not noticed.

“It is imperative that government
takes deliberate steps towards empowering women with the requisite knowledge and skills as major stakeholders in national development.”

It observed women and girls as the major victims of security challenges, saying Insecurity has left in its wake.

FOMWAN charged Government and other stakeholders to critically look into the security situation bedeviling the country as it called for synergy to collectively change the narrative in the interest of the people.
