The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists(NAWOJ) , Ondo State Chapter felicitates Nigerian Women as the World celebrates the 2021 International Women’s Day(IWD) .

The theme of this year’s celebration “ Women in Leadership : Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world .” is very auspicious as the occasion also brings to the front burner, the Challenges being faced as a result of Kidnapping of School Children in the northern region of the country especially, the Girl Child.

NAWOJ seeks a secured and conducive environment of learning for school children in Nigeria.

It also aligns with the priority theme of the 65th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, “Women’s full and effective participation and decision-making in public life, as well as the elimination of violence, for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls”, including the flagship Generation Equality Campaign, which calls for Women’s right to decision-making in all facets of life.

In a statement the Chairperson of NAWOJ, Ondo State Chapter, Mrs. Doris Olumoko, signed by the Secretary, Mrs. Patience Ibeh, urged Nigerian women particularly, Ondo State Women to be more amenable in accepting challenging roles in the society, as they occupy an important role in human relations and societal cohesion.

According to NAWOJ, the theme celebrates the tremendous efforts by Women and Girls around the world in shaping a more equal future in the face of the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement also called on Government at all levels to provide an enabling environment for women to thrive and express themselves especially in capacity building, governance and in management and administration of the nation’s economy.

As we appreciate the Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s effort, at encouraging women and youths through his numerous appointments we appeal to his Excellency as he constitutes his government to give Women more critical appointments to help in the transformation of the political and socioeconomic landscape of Ondo State.
