Homicide detectives of the Ondo State Police Command said it has commenced a full scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case of a-20-year-old man, arrested for allegedly raping a 40-year -old lady at Oluwatuyi area in Akure.
Meanwhile, the Command has debunked rumours that the eyes of the victim (names withheld) were plucked by the suspect.
The Command’s spokesman, ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro, while speaking with The Hope Metro in his office said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami, has directed that a discreet investigation be carried out on the matter.
It was learnt that the suspected rapist, whose identity is yet to be ascertained was beaten to coma by an angry mob for allegedly defiling the lady.
Reports reaching The Hope Metro said the young suspect sneaked into the victim’s house at Oluwatuyi area and allegedly defiled her.
The quick arrival of policemen from ‘B’ Division, Oke-Aro in Akure prevented angry youths from beating the suspect to death.
An eyewitness account said the suspect could not give his details because he was in a state of coma while the victim who had bruises in allover head and body.
However, the police spokesman has warned the media to stop rushing into conclusion on sensitive issues, saying where the suspect hailed from would be revealed through discreet investigation.
His words: “The suspect is not an Hausa by tribe as being speculated. Both suspect and the victim were rescued by the police from ‘B’ division who took them to the police hospital for treatment because a mob almost lynched the suspect.
“The lady had bruises on her head and body, but both of them are responding to treatment and in stable condition, “he stated.
The PPRO said after the investigation, the culprit would be charged to court for prosecution.
