.. Donald Trump failed to attend ceremony
The 46th president of the United States of America, Joe Biden has been sworn-in today at the Capitol Hill, along with his Vice, Kamala Harris.
The occasion which was the 59th Presidential inauguration in America had three past Presidents in attendance, Bill Clinton, George Bush, and Barack Obama.
The new US VP, Kamala Harris is the first female to occupy the office and first black Asia-American.
President Biden in his inaugural speech pleaded for unity to a divided nation. “This is our historic moment of crisis and challenge,” he said on the Capitol steps, shortly after being sworn in as the 46th president. “And unity is the path forward. And we must meet this moment as the United States of America. If we do that, I guarantee you we will not fail.”
At an inauguration like no other, amid a raging pandemic, in a city that has become a fortress of fences, concrete barriers and security checkpoints, Biden did not mention his predecessor by name, but declared that “democracy has prevailed.” Still, he vowed: “I will be a president for all Americans.”
Biden promised to be a President of all Americans, noting that if there’s unity in the land, America would not fail as it had not been an history of failure for America.
He pleaded with Americans to show respect for one another, to see others as neighbours, treat with dignity, saying that without peace there would be no progress, there would be no nation only chaos.
He said: “The will of the people has been heard, and the Will of the people has been heeded.
“We must confront the rise of white Supremacy and domestic terrorism. My whole soul is in putting America back together and uniting the country”.
As threatened by the outgone President, Donald Trump, he skipped the inauguration ceremony and left for Florida along with his wife, Melania.
His action was said to be the first in the history of America since 1859. He was said to have rather left a letter for the new President without proper handover.
Lady Gaga coordinated the singing of the American Anthem, while Jenifer Lopez entertained the gathering with a song for unity. Both were said to have contributed to the Biden/Kamala’s campaign.
