Female Journalist reaches out to the needy, visually impaired in Ekiti

A female Journalist with the Radio Nigeria, Positive FM, Akure, Mrs. Olufisoye Adenitan yesterday donated food and other valuable items to visually impaired persons and some widows in Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The gesture which was through her Non governmental organisation, Action for the Advancement of women and Girls was held at the government special school for the blind in Ikere Ekiti.

Speaking at the event, the former deputy governor of Ekiti state, Surveyor Abiodun Aluko stressed the need for caution against stigmatisation of persons living with disability

The former deputy governor explained that persons with disabilities are part of the society, hence, the need to show them love and compassion.

He urged them not to relent at developing their capacities because there is ability in disability.

Also speaking, philanthropist and construction Engineer, Abiodun Olowolafe advised the virtually impaired persons to showcase their talents so that they would be empowered to stand on their own.

Earlier, the Convener of the programme Mrs Olufisoye Adenitan, who is also the State Auditor of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists in Ondo State, said the purpose was to show love and compassion to the socially disadvantaged and less privileged in the society.

Mrs Adenitan said the NGO would continue to embark on more life changing programmes that would better the lives of the disabled persons.

In a remark ,the chairman of the association, Mr Olajide Olatunbosun appreciated the kind gesture and appealed for more government attention to the plight of the visually impaired children .

The chairperson of Ekiti NAWOJ, Alhaja Fatima Bello presented some of the items on behalf of the NGO to the representative of the principal of the school for the blind.

Over twenty women went home with different food items and children wears, items were also given to boarding students in the school.
