Despite the declaration of a 24hr curfew by the government of Ondo State to curb the wanton destruction of property and killings resulting from the ongoing nationwide protest against police brutality, a few number of youths today violated the order by blocking major roads in Akure the state capital.
They set ablaze the party secretariats of the People’s Democratic party PDP in Alagbaka, and the All Progressive Congress party along Oyemekun road.
As at the time JATS ONLINE NEWS visited the scene of the protest in Iyeoma junction, about 50 youths blocked the road with tyres while the PDP Secretariat close to the place was on fire.
Speaking with some of the guys, they claimed not to be fighting any political party but want a new Nigeria by fire by force. They couldn’t however pinpoint if real protesters set the Secretariat ablaze or thugs among them.
Police vans came to the scene briefly and left, but about six vehicles belonging to the Nigerian Army arrived minutes later at First bank round about to dispatch the protesters but some dared the soldiers and refused to scamper for safety.
In a twinkle of an eye, there were sporadic gunshot around Adesida road which made some people trekking along the road to start running for their dear lives. While a number of protesters in First bank Alagbaka were seen arguing with the Soldiers.
The APC Spokesman, Mr Alex Kalejaiye while speaking with JATS ONLINE NEWS on phone interview confirmed that the party’s Secretariat was set ablaze by thugs under the guise of EndSARS Protest.
According to him, the thugs had earlier visited the residence of the APC Chairman, Engr Ade Adetimehin with the intent to attack him and burn his apartment, saved for the urgent intervention of the security agents.
He noted that the hoodlums first went to the Secretariat, destroyed property and carted away some items before setting ablaze the entrance and some motorcycles parked in the premises.
He disclosed that they also visited the campaign office of an APC gubernatorial aspirant along the same route, Engr Ife Oyedele and destroyed property including computers.
Meanwhile, in an interrogation with some of the guys mounting the roads, they appeared to be real thugs and not decent protesters as some were challenging Journalist for taking the pictures of the situation.
