The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the Edo state governorship election.
He won by polling 307,955 votes to defeat Ize Iyamu his closest rival of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 223,619.
It would be recalled that Obaseki, who is the incumbent governor of Edo state detected from the APC party, a platform through which he was elected for the first time, having been disqualified by the screening committee.
He tried his luck with the opposition PDP and was picked as the party candidate.
Ize-iyamu, the APC candidate has however lost twice to Obaseki. He contested against him in 2016 under the platform of PDP while Obaseki was the APC Candidate.
