The Nigerian Army has established patrol base in addition to the existing checkpoints in Ose LGA of Ondo state with a view to checkmating the recurring decimal of robbery & kidnapping in the area.
This is sequel to the frequent cases of robbery along Elegbeka-Ipele junction & kidnapping of innocent travellers on Ipele-Owaani-Idoani axis of the local govt area.
Worried by the ugly development, Ondo state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) immediately facilitated drafting of more military personnel to some flashpoints not only to apprehend the criminals but to completely stamp out banditry in the area.
According to the Governor, his administration will continue to do everything humanly possible to keep every part of the state save for people to go about their legitimate businesses without fear of molestation.
This prompted the Brigade Commander, 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Barrack, Akure, Brigadier Z.L. Abubakar and Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. P.D. Obot to pay a working visit to Ose LGA where they approved the establishment of patrol base between Owaani – Idoani headed by non – nonsense taking military officer, Lt. Y Jibrin.
Thanking the Governor for his quick response, the executive chairman of the local govt, Prince Adekunle Dennis said the rising cases of banditry in Ose is becoming worrisome as the residents who are predominantly farmers & traders could no longer go about their daily businesses for fear of been robbed or kidnapped.
Following the establishment of the patrol base, the chairman was later joined by the head of the patrol base in Ose, Lt. Y. Jibrin to comb these notorious flashpoints suspected to be the hideouts of the marauders with a view to taking the battle to their jungles.
The chairman while assuring all law abiding residents of Ose of their safety pledged to support the military personnel with needed logistics that will enhance their patrol, surveillance & quick response to distress call.
He equally solicited the support of farmers, hunters & the general public who may have useful information about the movement or hideout of these criminals to contact the appropriate authority for prompt action.
It will be recalled that the CMD of the General Hospital, Idoani, Dr. Olufemi Adeogun, Kunle Agbayewa & three others were kidnapped at gunpoint between Owaani and Idoani early this month while five suspects are now in police custody over the kidnap.
