OndoGuber: Journalists’ accreditation ‘ll be online- INEC

..says Election’s result Portal is to engender transparency

In preparation for the October 10 governorship election in Ondo State, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, has declared that acrreditation of Journalists to cover the exercise would be through online portal which would be open soon.

This was made known by the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Mr. Rotimi Lawrence Oyekanmi during a virtual capacity building meeting to train Ondo Journalists on ‘Professional, Factual, Conflict Sensitive and Safety-Conscious Reporting of Ondo State governorship election, organised by the International Press Centre, IPC.

Speaking on the essence of the result Portal opened by INEC, Oyekanmi noted that it was to engender transparency as the portal will capture polling units result.

For facts and updates, the INEC CPS implored Journalists to follow the Commission on its social media platforms’ accounts which are also part of the situation rooms for contents.

He commended IPC for deeming it fit to train Journalists in a critical time that INEC is preparing for Ondo election, saying media were very important for free, fair and credible election.

Oyekanmi who said INEC maintained good relationship with the media by having 90 Journalists on its Press Crew, assured Ondo Journalists of cordial relationship, while expressing concern for those media organisations having difficulty to pay Journalists in this critical period.

Also speaking, Mr Martins Oloja, Editor at the Guardian Newspaper advised journalists to start early preparation for the election coverage, by alerting their various organisations to make available all the needed tools that would enhance the quality discharge of duty and for their safety purposes.

He further implored journalists to brace up for training on fact-checking and be conflict-sensitive, while tasking the state NUJ to organise a capacity building training for journalists on digital journalism.
