Wife of the founder of Prophet Sotitobire Praising Chapel in Akure, Mrs Bisola Alfa on today exonerated her husband of involvement in the disappearance of an 18-month-old child, Gold Eninlaloluwa Kolawole, from his church last year.
The 1st defence witness in the ongoing trial of her husband, Babatunde and six other workers of his church, testified that some days after the baby got missing, she received a text message from one Adamu, who claimed that he had the missing child in his custody.
She said she immediately informed the security agencies about the text message from the man.
Prior to her testimony before an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure, the defence led by Mr Olusola Oke, informed the court that they would be calling 20 witnesses to defend the case.
Mrs Alfa testified that she was informed on the day the child got missing, while everyone swung into action searching for the baby before she left for home to take care of one of her children who was not feeling fine.
” The following day, around 5pm, the 1st defendant and lawyer Omoware left for Church to meet with the parents of the missing child based on appointment later I received a call from the church that the father of the missing child led some thugs to the Church to destroy the Church”.
”The DSS came with my husband to search his house and nothing was found
While being led by the defence lawyer, Bisola debunked an earlier claim of the prosecution that on the day the baby got missing, her husband called some prayer points that anyone who refused to close his or her eyes would not see December, 2019, saying , ”it is blunt lies.”
During the cross-examination led by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Adekola Olawoye, SAN, the witness confirmed she married her husband legally and that they have two kids.
According to her, her kids were with her in the adult class and not in the children’s department due to the health status of her first child, adding that her children used to stay in the children’s department, except that day.
The second witness, Oluwasiji Olaniyi, one of the pastors in the church, in his evidence said two women brought the baby, Gold Kolawole, to the church on that Sunday.
He explained: ”But by the time we were searching for the missing baby, it was only the boy’s mother that joined us in searching the church’s vicinity, I didn’t see the second woman that accompanied her to the church.
He also testified that the officials of the Department of State Security Service and other law enforcement agents came to the church auditorium and office with video camera to search, but that they found nothing.
Oluwasiji further gave evidence that thugs led by the father of the missing baby came to the church with petrol and set the church ablazed, based on false information.
The trial judge Justice Olusegun Odusola, adjourned the case till June 29, 2020 for continuation of hearing.
