The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has attributed the explosion that killed numbers of people in Abule-Ado in Lagos state at the weekend as a result of the failure on the part of federal government to prioritise the security of Nigerians.
In a statement issued in respect of the explosion, by the Southwest Publicity secretary of the party, Mr. Ayo Fadaka, PDP calls for immediate action to forestall future recurrence, and viewed the incident as a planned bomb blast.
The statement reads: “We take serious view the bomb blast that occurred in Lagos last Sunday which claimed many lives. This development is devastating and indeed underscores the parlous security architecture that continues to subsist in our dear nation.
“That callous developments of this magnitude continues to occur in our nation with attendant loss of lives underscores the irresponsibility of government and indeed its failure at discharging its primary responsibilities of protecting lives, maintaining law and order.
“This blast is unfortunate, we therefore demand that actions henceforth be put in place to forestall such development again in Lagos or even across the nation.
“However we demand that Government must thoroughly investigate this development and come out bare on its findings as this may equip the system to prevent such developments again.
“We are however of the view that contrary to claims that the blast was due to pipeline explosion or a freaky accident involving a truck and a gas cylinder, we thus declare that there is much more than meets the eye in this matter.
“We have every reason to suspect this indeed is a bomb blast calculated to cause havoc in the nation’s commercial nerve center and actions must be taken to bring to book all those who are responsible for this callous action.
“Our security agencies must begin to identify all culprits who commissioned and execute hostile acts against Nigerians, that is the only way peace can be engendered in our nation”.
