Students’ death: AAUA Magt commiserates with families, declares two weeks break

The management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko has announced the sudden death of two students, and has therefore declared mid-term break.

According to a statement issued by the University’s Acting Registrar, Mr. Opeoluwa Akinfehinwa, a 200 Level of the Department of Educational Management, Miss Temitope Patience AYEDUN, was admitted at the University Health Centre, but the Medical Personnel tried their best to manage her until she was referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo where she was intensively managed before she died on Thursday, 5th March, 2020.

He added that on 6th March, the management received the news of the death of one Mr. Olakunle Matthew OLAYINKA, a 300-Level student of the Department of Biochemistry, following wounds from gunshot by unidentified gunmen, after the Medical personnel at the University Health Centre put up spirited efforts to stabilise him.

He noted that Security agents are, however, on the trail of the assailants for apprehension.

The statement reads:

“The University Management, under the leadership of the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga E. Ige, commiserates with the families of the deceased, the entire students and the University community on these sad events, and prays the Lord console the families and the entire University community.

“The University Management has beefed up security within and outside the campus to forestall recurrence.

“As a follow-up to the earlier memo conveying the University Management’s heartfelt condolences to the University community and the families of the deceased on recent painful loss of our students and the subsequent postponement of the First Semester Examinations, the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga E. Ige, on behalf of the University Senate, has approved a two-week Mid-Semester Break for all students with immediate effect.

“This is to enable our students refresh and prepare well for the First Semester Examinations for 2019/2020 academic session on resumption.

“Students are, however, expected to resume for the continuation of the First Semester, 2019/2020 academic calendar on Monday, 22nd March, 2020”.
