Fishers’ Summit: ODSG begins sensitisation tour to Ilaje communities

The Ondo State Government on Thursday started a community engagement and sensitisation on the proposed Fishermen Summit across a number of communities in Ilaje Local Government Area of the State.

The sensitisation itinerary, which began at the palace of the Amapetu of Mahin Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Akinyomi Segun, was aimed at making the chiefs, elders, stakeholders, youths and women of the Ilaje fishing community see why they must attend the summit.

The tour was to sensitise them on how the summit can enhance and upgrade their fishing businesses as well as the consequences of such on the economic progress of not only the Ilaje Community but also the entire State.

The Executive Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN who was ably represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), Barr. Felix Alonge said the summit would feature the use of modern fishing equipments, the various challenges of our Fisher men and women such as preservation as well as viable solutions to them.

He enjoined the people to “tell others to tell others to be part of the summit”.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public and Intergovernmental Affairs, Mrs Olubunmi Ademosu informed the people that the summit would encompass an interactive session where the fishers would have a chance of sharing their various experiences and challenges and how they have been dealing with those challenges over the years.

“By sharing those challenges first hand, you give the government a chance of coming to your aid where necessary”, she said.

The Amapetu of Mahin Kingdom was represented by one of his chiefs, Chief Obaniran Akinyomi in company of the Palace Secretary, Barr. Manuwa Ayelaje. Similarly, The Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba Dr F.E.O. Akinruntan, Okoro Ajiga 1 was also represented at the occasion by the Aro of Ugbo Kingdom, High Chief John Ayanfe.

The team from the State Government also proceeded to Ugbonla, another Ilaje town, where they met with Oba Dr H.M. Ogunfeyimi, the Lane II, King of Zion and a number of his chiefs as well as other elders of Ugbonla Land.

Among other towns visited by the State Government team were Awoye community, Molutehin community, Odonla Community, Ogogoro community, Araromi Sea-side and Enuama community among other communities.

Meanwhile, other members of the team delegated by the State Government include the Special Assistant to the Governor on Home Grown School Feeding Programme, Mr J. S. Olupona, Special Assistant to the Governor on Conditional Cash Transfer, Mr C.K. Ojo, Director of Finance and Administration, Multilateral and Public Relations, Mrs Y. I. Pirisola and other top government functionaries.
