The lawmaker representing Ilaje/Ese-odo Federal constituency of Ondo state, Hon. Kolade Akinjo has expressed readiness to partner the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ to promote gender equality, fight against rape and other gender based violence.
Akinjo stated this while hosting members of the Ondo NAWOJ in Abuja, as part of their trip to the ongoing 30th anniversary ceremony of the association.
The lawmaker said effort would be geared towards ensuring that bills that would promote the rights of women and girl-child are passed into law and enforced.
Mr Akinjo noted that the girl child would be supported to stay in school and have quality access to basic necessity of life like the boy child.
He assured Ondo NAWOJ of his support and commitment to the programmes and activities of the association, and urged members to support the present executives to achieve the desired goal.
The lawmaker commended Ondo NAWOJ members for their various advocacy programmes which had yielded positive result in the lives of women and children in the state.
Speaking, the State chairperson of NAWOJ, Mrs Doris Olumoko who appreciated the Lawmaker, highlighted the achievements of the association in the last few months to include, gender advocacy to schools and political parties, foreign trip for members and protecting women from domestic violence through reporting cases to the relevant authorities.
Mrs Olumoko solicited legislative backing to achieve more in uplifting the lives of women and children.
