The National President of Yoruba Youths Congress, YYC, Prince Dapo Adepoju has reacted to the allegations against the governor of Ondo State credited to former deputy governor of the state, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, describing it as baseless and mischievous.
Prince Dapo who doubles as Chairman, Coalition of Southwest Youths group said all those allegations are targeted at distracting the governor.
“After looking at all what the former deputy governor said about the governor, we came to a conclusion that the man has personal issues with the governor and at that looking for every means to compel the governor to divert Ondo State funds which the governor may have rebuffed.
“As the chairman, Coalition of Southwest Youth groups my appeal to all the governors in the southwest region is to make payment of workers salary, Infrastructural development, Youth employment and empowerment, Good education policy and industrialization a priority and in all of this we haven’t found governor Akeredolu wanting.
“He has been paying workers salary and apart from the massive infrastructures put in place by his administration, he’s also bringing industries to Ondo state which has been engaging our youths.
“I applaud the governor for the peace being experienced in Ondo State and this is due to the fact that our youths are now engaged’, he said
According to Prince Adedapo, the Coalition of Southwest youth groups has made it a duty to monitor the activities of all the region’s governors in terms of performance, and has rated Akeredolu high.
“The records of Alhaji Alli Olanusi will not also make us take him serious; we have the records of his conduct when he was the state chairman of PDP in Ondo and how he abandoned former governor Agagu at the die minute to team up with Dr Olusegun Mimiko, After he became the deputy governor, information has it that he was plotting the removal of his boss despite the fact that lots of party faithfuls opposed to his choice of being the running mate of Dr Mimiko for a second term but the governor stood his ground and picked him.
“Another thing that caught our attention is the way the man tried to malign the image of the wife of the governor. We make bold to say that even if Islam encouraged polygamy it didn’t call it enslavement of the wives.
“We therefore urge Mr Olanusi to stop throwing tantrums at the Akeredolu led administration which has done so much for our teeming youths, and his wife has come up with different laudable programmes for the benefit of our mothers and wives”.
Alhaji Olanusi had in a interview granted to the Nigerian Tribune indicted Governor Akeredolu of working against the All Progressives Congress, and that he has destroyed the party structure in the state.
He further alleged him of not yielding to the advice of party leaders, including himself and boasted that APC cannot win election in the state if Akeredolu continues.
Part of the allegations are quoted below:
“He has killed the party, there is no party. When we were asked to conduct election to pick officers to run the affairs of the party, he and his cabinet at the Government House sat in their offices and wrote names by themselves without any party input or election. That is where the problem started from.
“He doesn’t recognise any party structure. For the first time in my political life, I am seeing what I have never seen. It was when Akeredolu became governor that the political party which brought him into power went comatose. Till now, the party is not holding any ward meeting in all the 203 wards of Ondo State. If you don’t meet at the ward level, the local government level and at the state level, where else does the party meet to talk about issues?
Asked about the achievements of Akeredolu’s administration, Olanusi said:
“Which achievements? You know I laughed when they show people outside the state a road which is not up to one kilometre; they will show pictures. It is those of us here that know what is going on. All the roads he was showing, none is up to two kilometers; from Police A Division to Ajasin Road Roundabout, it is not up to one kilometre. Since the beginning of this year, I have been to Akoko only twice because of bad road. He said it is federal road but we are the people plying the road. When other governors were there, they knew how to work with the Federal Road Management Agency (FERMA) to frequently patch the road so that we could get round easily. Because of bad road, I can’t go home regularly like I used to do. Seeing what other states are showing on television, Akeredolu decided to emulate them by showing pictures so that people can think that he is working. The people outside the state don’t know that what they are being shown is not the correct picture of what is going on here. Today, there is no pipe borne water in any part of Ondo State”.
