As the three day 19th National Women’s conference organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials, COWLSO, ends today, participants from Ondo State have assured of their readiness to translate the experiences and knowledge acquired to the development of their immediate environments.
The Ondo State delegates who were drawn from the Forum of Wives of the State Officials, FOWOSO, shared their experiences, with the assurance to exert their energies to ensure that the upcoming FOWOSO Summit gains momentum and impacts lives.
On her part, the Special Assistant to Ondo State Governor on Gender, Researchand Documentation, Mrs. Tope Daniyan described the conference as an all-encompassing one, having being fed with various lectures on becoming a total and woman of virtue.
Speaking in reference to the theme of the conference, “Unlearn, Learn, and Relearn”, Mrs Daniyan advised women to unlearn some archaic attitudes and lifestyles that are unhealthy, and learn attributes that would better their lives.
The Chairperson of Irele Local government, Mrs. Olajumoke Akinbiola said she has been challenged by the various lectures, and avowed her commitment to keep empowering women in her constituency in accordance with the vision of the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Akeredolu which she demonstrates through the FOWOSO and the BEMORE programmes.
Mrs. Mercy Femi Idris, wife of the Ondo State Local Government Service Commission, who doubles as the Committee Chairman of 2019 FOWOSO Summit, commended the magnanimity of Mrs Akeredolu for affording them the privilege to partake in such an eye-opening event.
According to her, FOWOSO is just three years in Ondo State compared to the 19 years of COWLSO, and affirmed that some of the experiences they garnered would be put into action to improve on the FOWOSO project.
The Southern Women Leader of the All Progressives Congress party in the state, Mrs. Mosun Odukale described the event as well-packaged and assured that she would relay the lessons to women in the state for their home and political usefulness.
While Mrs. Margret Akinsuroju, Chairman Odigbo local government affirmed that the conference was educative and taught them numerous methods to influence the lives of fellow women positively, a former chairman of Akure South Local Government, Mrs. Margret Atere also attested that she acquired new experiences.
The COWLSO Chairperson and wife of the Lagos State Governor, Mrs. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu enjoined the women to continually make their voices to be heard on any issue they’re not comfortable with, and to take the conference’s message to women in their localities.
The Chairman of the Gala night, and Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Hakeem Okunola noted that if the platform of wives of government’s officials is properly harnessed, it would go a long way to transform women across the nation.
The conference was an avenue to showcase and honour some selected women of substance who have excelled in their various professions, including the hip hop artiste, Teni, gospel singer, Tope Alabi, and a female comedian.
Two brand new cars, a three bedroom bungalow in Lekki Lagos, a fully-funded trips to London, Dubai, and Ghana were won by some women during the raffle draw session, while many others left with different types of electrical appliances.
